ARTFULNESS

PETER: What is ARTFULNESS?
AMIE: ARTFULNESS is a Gallery and a Café it opened in April 2005. It’s a platform for Artist’s. We advertised initially in the Artist’s newsletter but since we’ve been open local Artist’s have come in and shown their work so gradually it’s becoming more local.

PETER: Do you give preference to local Artist’s, including any local networks?
AMIE: Yeah I do give preference to Artist’s who are members of ROTA (Return Of The Artist), a networking society for Artist’s working in York. ROTA helps up and coming Artist’s get exhibitions all over the city in bars and restaurants and ARTFULNESS is a good outlet for them to exhibit in.

AMIE: There are a few traditional things like watercolours etc. but we strive to advertise the gallery as a platform for contemporary works, there’s a few people been back to purchase work. As regards to pricing, we try to stay at the affordable end of the market.
